Tivaevae Design

We were challenged to create a tivaevae design to celebrate Cook Island language week. To create my Tivaevae design, I did some research and looked at many different designs. I saw that all of them had flowers, so I decided to add hibiscus flowers since they are common in the cook islands. One of the rules for a tivaevae designs is that is must be symmetrical. So I drew one side then copied it and flipped it over. I carefully thought about what colours and gradients I should use to make my design look realistic.

I enjoyed this activity because I got to use my creativity to create my own tivaevae design.

  1. Talofa Keira!
Your Tivaevae design looks beautiful. I really enjoyed the way you decided to add flowers that can be seen in Cook Island, where the Tivaevae originated. How did you add detail into your hibiscus?
    Kind Regards, Folose.

  2. Kia Ora Folose,
Im glad you liked my tivaevae design, to add detail I carefully pick my gradients and changed the angles on each petal. Have you ever made a tivaevae design?
    Kind Regards, Keira

  3. Greetings Keira,
I love how your tivaevae turned out, I like how you picked out the colours carefully and see which is the best for the flowers. I was wondering if you drew the sun and palm tree because it looks magnificent?
    Sincerely, Hasna.
